Croatian Development Programme of the Audiovisual Industry

More Films, Female Directors and Content for Young Adults

| March 6th 2011 | The National Development Programme of the Audiovisual Industry was presented on January 27th, 2011. The presentation took place during an official ceremony held in a fully packed lecture hall of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. This strategic document defines the guidelines of audiovisual development in the period 2010-2014.

Some of the Programme guidelines include increasing the number of spectators to 5 million (the number of cinema visits per capita from 0.7% to 1.1%), raising the rates of Croatian film in digital cinemas and on TV from 1% to 15%, and of European films to 20%.

Hrvoje Hribar, Head of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre presented the Programme under the motto “Improving Croatia's picture and sound”. Other presenters were Vera Robić-Škarica, Chair of the Croatian Audiovisual Committee; Ankica Jurić Tilić, Head of the Croatian Producers' Association; Tatjana Aćimović, audiovisual service export incentive measure task force coordinator; Antonio Nuić, Head of the Croatian Film Directors Guild; Nada Gaćešić-Livaković, Head of the Croatian Society of Film Workers, and actress Nina Violić (photo).

The anticipated production alone shows the extent to which the new programme is comprehensive and note-worthy:

  • 15 feature films (including are 3 debuts, 3 TV features and 3 for children and young adults)
  • 4 documentaries
  • 1 animated film each year
  • 120 short films (30 features, 50 documentaries, 20 animated and 20 experimental films)
  • 15 documentaries, 2 animated and 2 serials for children
  • 10 mini TV series (5 for children and young adults)

The funding of minimum 3 debuts and 3 films for children and young adults will hopefully increase the number of women directors.
The presentation was wrapped up by actresses Marija Škaričić and Zrinka Cvitešić who appealed for the salvation of Croatian film, and for media coverage of this important presentation.
